Several weeks ago, I garbage picked this beautiful hutch-type-thing.
Mr. Nitty Gritty didn't quite see the beauty in it yet, but I assured him that HE WILL! It looks like it started out being someone else's project, and they gave up. All the more of a challenge for me! It has been sitting in Mr. Nitty Gritty's man cave for a while now, and I know he probably wants it outta there, so hopefully I will get some extra time to work on her this weekend. So far I've patched numerous holes and grooves with massive amounts of wood putty, sanded it, re-applied wood putty and it is currently waiting for the next step. I'm trying to do all of this after Olivia goes to sleep, since I don't want her around inhaling dust.
The wood backing on the left half of the cabinet was warped and severely degraded, so I ripped it off. My plan is to put some beadboard as the new backing and add a few shelves. Just look at the detail:
She's got some great curves! I think she has potential. Even if it doesn't work out the way I want it to, at least I'm gaining valuable experience for future furniture re-dos. Not everyone can just roll out of bed and instantly become Miss Mustard Seed or Beckie from Infarrantly Creative. It takes hard work and creativity. Those two ladies are my inspiration!
