My father collects antiques. My parents' house is full of beautiful treasures and I grew up with a love for all things old and unique. Whenever I visit them, I always find myself going to my dad's workroom where he keeps his recently acquired finds. From there, he determines if he wants to keep and display an antique, sell and ship one he recently sold, or put it in the "Lori" pile, which is stuff he is not keeping and I can take away.
Imagine my surprise when I found these lovely hollow glass orbs in the Lori pile during my last visit. Dad explained that they are fisherman's net floats. I think they are beautiful and I took them home and scrubbed them clean. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. One of the orbs has a flat spot, so I placed it on the candle holder that serves as a book end for my Twilight collection.
I think they are so cool and now I want MORE! I think they would look nice in a basket or a bowl, but they are so beautiful when they are held against the light, so I’m trying to think of a way to hang them. Hmmmm.
Pretty pretty. I thought they were glass transistors at first. Your dad is great for giving you those.

ReplyDeleteThanks for leaving such a nice comment on my blog. The glass floats your dad gave you are probably from Japan, Korea, or that area of the world and are fishing net floats. There are many authentic ones still to ber found and they are very much a sought after collectible. I just wrote a post about buying my first one from the Glass Float Junkie's blog. I would think that you could make a net for them out of twine, if you want to go the beachy route, or clear fishing line would give the same support and add a subtle texture to them.
